Lefkada, or Lefkas is island in the Ionian Sea on the west coast of Greece, connected to the mainland by a long causeway and floating bridge. The principal town of the island and seat of the municipality is Lefkada. It is situated on the northern part of the island, approximately 20 minutes by automobile away from Aktion  National Airport.

The island has mild summers and pleasant winters, especially in the mountains.

Lefkas is well known about the myth of Sappho’s suicide at Cape Lefkada, which is related to other myths linking the island to the ancient Greek goddess of love, Aphrodite, and to Odysseus, the hero of Homer’s Odyssey.

Situated on the East Coast of Lefkas (Levkas, Lefkada), Nidri is also sometimes spelt Nydri and is the Islands’ main tourist resort. Halfway between Lefkada Town (17km north) where the island is connected by road bridge to the mainland, and Vassiliki (21km south) with it’s ferry connection to Kefalonia, Nidri has it’s own small ferry port with ferries to Kefalonia, Ithaka and Meganisi.
